Eagles nest atop all-county squad

Geneva, once again, leads selections

The Geneva tennis team again rolled through its schedule, racking up 18 straight victories and sending the doubles team of Alyx Lynham and Amy Varckette to the Division II state tournament.

Lynham, a senior, is the Star Beacon Ashtabula County Player of the Year for the second consecutive season and Torok is the Coach of the Year in leading the Eagles to an 18-3 mark. Geneva has won 13 of the last 14 league championships it has played for in claiming the Premier Athletic Conference title. The team has not lost a league match since 2005.

Joining Lynham and Torok on the Star Beacon All-Ashtabula County first team are Varckette, a freshman, and the doubles team of senior Beth Steele and sophomore Deidra Yan.

Other members on the first team include Lakeside singles players Katie Allan and Kayla Johnston, both seniors, and doubles players Ashley Gran, a junior, and Courtney Smith, and Jefferson senior Sarah Brook.

The second team includes Martina Drugovich, Sydney VanHoy and Kayla Huff of Geneva, Arden Bishop, Morgan Brown, Angelina Forman and Makala Fioritto of Jefferson and Leah Fortney and Sarah George of Lakeside.
