Midget FB Roundup: AMFL Super Bowl set: Jets vs. Cowboys

Badger Braves, Ashtabula Jets will play in JV title game first Saturday night at Lakeside

Following a pair of hotly contested games, the participants for the Ashtabula Midget Football League Super Bowl have been determined.

The Andover Cowboys claimed a thrilling overtime victory over the Ashtabula Steelers while the Ashtabula Jets bested the Badger Braves in a low-scoring battle.

The Cowboys and Jets will face each other in the AMFL Super Bowl at Lakeside Stadium on Saturday at 6 p.m. In the JV Super Bowl, the Badger Braves will take on the Ashtabula Jets.

n Cowboys 13, Steelers 12 — The teams entered overtime deadlocked at 6-6 and both squads hit paydirt in the extra period, but the Cowboys’ J.T. Willis tallied the extra point for the win.

Willis tallied 64 yards rushing, a pair of touchdowns and the extra point. Brandon Clay added 65 yards on the ground.

The Cowboys’ defense was led by Nick Such, Gary Baker, Willis, Curtis Jordan, Justin Swiger, Matt Fetters and Clay.

Jarred Patton and Markale McKinney (on a fumble recovery) netted touchdowns for the Steelers. Zach Maldonaldo led the Steelers with 74 yards rushing.

Leading the Steelers’ defense was Micheal Coup with seven tackles — 2 for losses and Patton with five tackles — 2 for losses. Devonte Norman had four stops — one for a loss and Jacob Bryant (both for losses), Kaleb Garcia, McKinney, and Maldonado each had two tackles..

n Jets 6, Braves 0 — Ryan Faulkerson connected with Modesto Lebron for the only points of the game.

It was the sixth shutout of the year for the Jets defense, which was led by Sousa, who had seven tackles, including one for a loss, and a pair of sacks. Zach Mariotti, Ryan Matthews and Austin Sturgill all had four tackles and a sack and Lebron had four tackles and an interception.

Lebron pounded the ground for 48 yards, Jordan Walker tallied 29, Cale Sousa netted 10 and Faulkerson had four.

n Braves JV 13, Cowboys JV 6 — Devin Moore carried seven times for 152 yards and a pair touchdowns Bailey Litz had five carries for 28 yards and Anthony Yauger added an extra point and 18 yards on four carries for the Braves.
