The Grand Valley Junior All-Stars were eliminated from the state tournament after falling to Canfield, 10-0, and Lucasville, 10-5, in Englewood on Sunday.
“It was a great experience,” manager Tom Henson said. “The girls had been hoping to get to this level. I think they were a little shellshocked facing Canfield in the first game. That’s a very good team.”
In the opener, Grand Valley was held to three hits, two from Abby Takacs and a double from Sam Jaevons.
In the nightcap, Takacs and Jaevons each had two hits and Krystal Wengerd doubled as GV outhit Lucasville, 11-7.
“I felt the kids played really well,” Henson said. “We’d just make a mistake and let it compound. In the second game, we made a couple crucial mistakes that hurt us. At this level, you can’t afford to have the errors we had.”
GV made eight miscues in the two games.
