While their baseball counterparts head out of regular-season ports into postseason waters starting today, the sectional-district tournaments for area squads will not commence until starting Tuesday.
Here’s a breakdown of what’s on top for the area’s teams this week:
As part of the Jefferson sectional-district tournament, three area teams will get the ball rolling Wednesday, with two others waiting in the wings Thursday.
Fifth-seeded Conneaut will host 12th-seeded Harvey in a sectional semifinal Wednesday, while ninth-seeded Edgewood journeys to fourth-seeded Lake Catholic and No. 8 seed Perry heads to No. 7 seed Hathaway Brown.
The other sectional semifinal here has 10th-seeded West Geauga hosting 11th-seeded Collinwood.
Thursday, second-seeded Geneva will host the winner of the Harvey-Conneaut clash in a sectional championship game, while third-seeded Jefferson will welcome the survivor of the Edgewood-Lake Catholic matchup in another sectional title clash the same day.
The Perry-Hathaway winner will head to sixth-seeded Beaumont, while the survivor of the Collinwood-West Geauga game must play at top-seeded Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin.
The district tournament shifts to the JAGS Complex in Jefferson, with the semifinals being staged a week from Wednesday and the championship clash set for a week from Thursday.
The Mentor sectional-district will host area squads Lakeside, Madison and Riverside.
Tenth-seeded Lakeside will play at fifth-seeded Madison on Tuesday in a sectional semifinal, with the winner moving on to play at fourth-seeded Mayfield in a sectional championship game Wednesday.
Top-seeded Riverside will host the winner of a sectional semifinal between No. 11 seed Brush and No. 8 seed North in a sectional championship clash Wednesday.
The other sectional semifinal has ninth-seeded Shaw playing at seventh-seeded Euclid.
The tournament moves to Mentor for the district-level games, with the semifinals set for a week from Tuesday and the title tilt a week from Wednesday.
Pymatuning Valley and Grand Valley are part of the field at the Jefferson sectional-district field.
Fourth-seeded PV plays at third-seeded Brookfield in a sectional semifinal Thursday, while No. 6 seed Grand Valley must play at Garfield the same day.
The PV-Brookfield winner will move to a sectional championship game at top-seeded LaBrae on Friday, while the GV-Garfield victor will journey to second-seeded Champion.
The district games will be play at the JAGS Complex in Jefferson, the semifinals set for Thursday and the championship clash being staged the following day.
