Geneva field events advance in Day 1

— With the first day of events in the book at the Division I district meet at Austintown Fitch, the Geneva boys and girls track teams have several competitors already qualified for the regional meet next week at Fitch.

Zach Watts and Joey Joy each advanced in the pole vault. Watts was second, clearing 12-0 and Joy was fourth at 10-9.

Dalton Coffey placed fourth in the discus with a toss of 143-10.

Hailey VanHoy, Summer Arndt, Emily O’Dell and Emily Deering qualified for the regional meet with a second-place showing in the 3,200-meter relay.

A number of athletes have advanced to the event finals that will be completed on Friday.

In Division III at Independence, Kelly Preske of Grand Valley punched her ticket to the regional at Navarre Fairless with a second-place leap of 4-10 in the high jump.
