PERRY TOWNSHIP — The Perry Pirates did their best to squeeze Orange on Saturday in a 63-11 Chagrin Valley Conference victory at Spectator Gymnasium.

Perry (9-12, 4-6) focused on defense early. The Pirates trapped the Lions all over the floor and forced numerous turnovers.

Orange (1-18, 0-11) did a solid job on defense in the first quarter, despite struggling to get a lot of shots up on offense, and were down 14-0 after the first quarter.

The second quarter saw Orange get on the board, thanks to the smooth free throw shooting of Leslie Sensibello, but Perry continued to hound the ball, both on the glass and in the open floor. The Pirates led, 32-4, at halftime.

“We’re a pressuring team. The girls did a good job,” Perry coach Mike Decker said. “We’ve been trying to play to our standard all year. We run a dribble-drive offense.

“Sixty points looked a long way away (earlier in the year), (when we were shooting) 3s, we looked confident.”

Brittany Levkulich led the way for the Pirates with 20 points, including three 3-pointers.

“We were passing a lot, looking for open the person,” Levkulich said.

Megan Reid added 16 points, also including three 3s and Emily Clark scored eight points and had 10 rebounds for the Pirates.

“They were getting some shots up, we are a very young team, we’ve come a long way, we have a very bright future,” Orange coach Ship Collins said. “With a lot of freshman playing a varsity schedule, you can’t replace experience, now they know how hard to go, what it’s like to be out there.

“They have persevered the entire season.”

Leslie Sensibello led the way for Orange with six points.
