For the Star Beacon
Another year of the Beacon’s Best Youth Tournament is in the books. After two qualifying rounds, the top two in each division squared off to determine the champion.
The girls 10-and-under-division was close with both girls bowling over average. Annalee Hagstrom from El Camp Lanes edged Mersaides Elliott-Estep from Lake Shore Lanes by 13 pins.
The boys 10-and-under-division was also a tight match. Seth Rose who bowls at ABC Lanes and El Camp Lanes started the match out with a 206 game. That was enough to get him past Robert Hagstrom from El Camp Lanes.
The girl’s 11-13 division only had one competitor. Jordan Brown from ABC Lanes bowled against Elijah Vazquez from El Camp Lanes, who was the third=place finisher in the boy’s 11-13 division. Both bowled over average, but Brown prevailed with a handicap series of 654.
The boys in the 11-13 division bowled extremely well. Kyle Robertson from Sonny Lanes came in with a 132 average and bowled a 513 scratch series, 699 with his handicap. Mitchell Lemponen, who bowls at ABC Lanes and El Camp Lanes, bested him with a personal-best series of 644 scratch, 746 with handicap to win the division.
The girls 14 and over division had Sydney Millard from Jefferson Lanes against Bree Leonard from ABC Lanes. Millard’s 627 series with handicap was enough to get past Leonard.
Zach Tackett from Lake Shore Lanes bowled a scratch series of 531, 687 with handicap to defeat Sean Prine, also of Lake Shore Lanes, who had a 659 handicap series in the boys 14-and-over division.
All of the kids will be bowling in the Ohio State USBC Youth Northeast Regional Team Tournament in April at Bill White’s Twin Star Lanes in Kent.
