Baker’s dozen to enter Hall of Fame

Diverse, talented group makes up Class of 2014 gridiron class

Ranging from 1962 through 2001, the Ashtabula County Football Hall of Fame will welcome another class of new members late this year.

A total of 13 men will be inducted as part of the Class of ’14 at the annual Ashtabula County Touchdown Club Banquet in December at Our Lady of Peace in Ashtabula.

Two men who graduated in 1962 will lead the way for the Hall of Fame Class of 2014.

Dennis DeGennaro and Bob Louys, both former Ashtabula Panther stars, will enter the doors of the Hall of Game 52 years after they graduated from high school.

Ron Severino, a 1966 St. John graduate, will join them, along with another man who graduated in the ’60s — former Harbor standout Bill Olin, who graduated in 1969.

Three men who graduated in the 1970s will enter the HOF as part of the Class of 2014.

Two of them are former Geneva Eagles stars — Dan Craine, a 1975 graduate, and Rick Koschar, who graduated two years later in 1975.

Jefferson’s inductee — Alex Toukonen, a 1978 graduate — rounds out the inductees from the 1970s.

Three players who graduated in the 1980s will also be part of the Hall of Fame Class of 2014.

Former Harbor quarterback Dana Schulte, a 1982 graduate, J.T. Kanicki of Edgewood, a 1985 graduate, and Jeff Takacs of Grand Valley, a 1988 graduate, will represent players from that decade.

Speaking of quarterbacks, Ashtabula County’s all-time passing leader for passing yards in a single season and career — Sean Freeman, a 1990 Pymatuning Valley graduate — will enter the HOF in December.

He will be joined by Conneaut’s Eric Showalter, a 1992 graduate, as players from the 1990s heading to the HOF this year.

The Class of 2014 will be rounded out by the youngest inductee this year — Jeff Dinger, a 2001 Conneaut graduate.

The Ashtabula County Hall of Fame, which was established in December 2004, numbers 145 members, a number which will swell to 158 when the Class of 2014 is inducted at the end of this year.
