Holiday with a bang at Raceway 7

Wright, Rhebergen, Bolyard, Blackshear and Fraschetti get Independence Day wins

MONROE TOWNSHIP — On the most pleasant afternoon and evening of the season the fans packed Raceway 7 to celebrate the 238th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence with Fireworks by Gibson and five exciting feature events.

At the end of the feature events, Brandon Blackshear had won his first of the season in Zimmer Service Center Economods, Dale Fraschetti collected his second Specialty Products Mini Stocks win, Chad Wright had his third Evergreen Lake Park Campground Crate Late Models win. Ed Bolyard got his win total to three for the year, and Brent Rhebergen won his second Bonnell Collision Center E-Mods feature of the year.

Seventeen Zimmer Service Center Economods started their feature event with Steve Burns and Josh Ferry leading the field to Roger Osburn’s green flag. At the end of lap one it was Burns, the 2014 points leader, looking for his fourth win of the season, over Brandon Blackshear, the 2012 Champion.

Matt Wolf clobbered the wall on the front straight at the end of lap two, bringing out the red flag. On the restart, Blackshear got sideways in turn two, causing a chain-reaction eventually involving four cars, but Blackshear never stopped and was thusly not charged with the caution and restarted from second.

At seven laps in, Ferry was back to second after Blackshear made an attempt at a pass for the lead but fell back in turn four. At lap nine Blackshear retook the runner-up spot and then to the lead at the end of 10. At the end of the 15 laps it was Blackshear over Burns, Ferry, Todd. Canter, and Rock Prosser. It was Blackshear’s first win of the season.

Jason Easler and Dale Fraschetti led the 21 Specialty Products Mini Stocks to the green with Fraschetti leading the way after lap one. Following a mystery caution after one lap of green, Fraschetti led Easler and Sergeff with defending champion Brad Cole fourth and points leader Carlos Aponte, up from twelfth at the start.

At halfway, the order was the same and stayed that way until Aponte lost power at lap ten and fell through the standings. At the checkers it was Fraschetti for his second win of the season over Easler, Sergeff, Cole, and Mitch Stokes.

Bob Pifer and defending champion Chad Wright led the Evergreen Lake Park Campground Crate Late Models to the start of their feature. Wright grabbed the lead at the drop of the green over Pifer and Kyle Zimmerman with Matt Latta third at the end of two laps when yellow flew for a spin by Wendell Pinckney.

After green, Latta immediately came to second but the race was slowed again as Kevin Hill slapped the wall in turn two. Latta again came to second after green but yellow again flew when Mike Mitchell and Pifer got together in turn four, eventually gathering up Dave Airgood and Khole Wanzer as well.

Another spin by Pinckney at lap five slowed the field yet again. Roger Vance, in his first outing at Raceway 7 this season, had major mechanical failure on the front straight when a “J” bar broke, coming to a halt with the right front wheel assembly broke down and a flat right rear. At halfway Wright had a ten car-length lead over Latta with Zimmerman third. The front three remained the same until two laps from the end with Darrell Bossard in fourth and Airgood fifth until looping his mount in turn four.

The final two laps were all Wright with Latta and Zimmerman nearly side by side at the end. Bossard was fourth with Pifer back to fifth at the finish. It was Wright’s third win of the season.

Chris Hochschild and Rod Lasky brought the Campbell’s Mini-Storage Street Stocks to the green with Hochschild leading the way after one lap of green. Jason Covey came to second at the end of lap three.

Lasky spun in turn one of lap four then both Kenny Lamp and defending champion and current points leader Chris Withers retired to the pits under yellow but Withers was able to return after repairs, although well off the pace and retiring to the infield after before completing a lap.

Ed Bolyard came to the lead at the end of four laps with Covey second, with Hochschild and last week’s winner Shaun Fawcett fighting over third. Fawcett was third at the end of seven. Covey was able to get alongside Bolyard but the former champion Bolyard held on for his third win of the season. At the finish Fawcett was following Covey with Hochschild fourth and Rob Bates fifth.

Brent Rhebergen, looking for his second win of the season, and Dan Davies, looking for his first-ever Raceway 7 feature win, led the seventeen Bonnell Collision Center E-Mods to Roger Osburn’s green flag with Rhebergen leading the way over Davies and points leader Gary Eicher.

Twelfth-starting defending champion Joel Watson was up to seventh at the end of four green flag laps. After one more lap Gary Murphy looped his mount in turn four, tightening the field under yellow. After green, Eicher came to second and Watson to fifth on the first lap of green.

Bruce Powell and Josh McDonald both turned around in turn four, again slowing the action. Watson was fourth at the end of eight. At halfway the top five were Rhebergen, Eicher, Davies, Watson, and Kenny Zimmer. After a yellow at lap seventeen due to a flagman dropping the ‘move-over’ flag onto the track surface, Rhebergen went on to his second win of the season over Eicher, Davies and Watson. Jack Young got by Zimmer for fifth on the final run to the checkers.
