Fireworks on tap tonight at Raceway 7

All five divisions will be in competition this evening

MONROE TOWNSHIP — As usual, Raceway 7 will celebrate America's Independence Day with a giant Fireworks display by Gibson at intermission. The display will cap an evening of racing in all five divisions with the points races heating up as the racers reach the mid point of the season.

Defending champion Chad Wright, with two feature wins, holds a comfortable 31-point lead as he is apparently enroute to his second consecutive title in the headliner Evergreen Lake Park Campground Crate Late Models. Matt Latta, who picked up his first-ever Raceway 7 feature victory earlier this season (June 6) is currently second with former Street Stock champion Darrell Bossard, who won his first Crate Late Model feature on May 30, currently rides third, 59 points out of the lead. Kyle Zimmerman and Dave Airgood are fourth and fifth.

On the strength of two wins Gary Eicher leads the Bonnell Collision Center E-Mods points race by 68-points over defending champion Joel Watson and another two points over track promoter Dan McDonald. Former champion Percy McDonald is currently fourth after an opening-night win and Ken Zimmer is fifth.

Defending champion Chris Withers is looking to get his second championship in a row in the Campbell's Mini-Storage Street Stocks division. Withers has a 29-point edge over Jimmy Kennerknect on the strength of two feature wins while Kennerknecht has yet to arrive at Victory Lane. Ed Bolyard, a former champion, is currently third, another three points behind Kennerknecht. Ken Lamp Jr and Shaun Fawcett fill out the top five points cars.

Steve Burns is a three time Zimmer Service Center Economods winner this season, including the big $500 to win event last Friday night. Josh Mueller, winner for the first time in his career on June 13, rides second, 72-points behind the leader. The next three spots are held by two-time winner Josh Ferry, Russ Kapalin, and Ty Rhoades, both winless thus far in the season. Only six points separate third, fourth, and fifth. Brandon Blackshear currently is currently fifth.

2012 champion Bud Sergeff leads the Specialty Products Mini Stocks at the mid-point of the season with an opening night win. Aponte trails Sergeff by only twelve markers. Dale Fraschetti, who won his first-ever feature earlier this season, is currently third, another nine points behind Aponte. Jason Easler and defending champion Brad Cole round out the top five.

Weather permitting, gates open every Friday at 5:30 p.m. with pill draw cutoff at 7 and racing at 7:30. VIP suites are available for rental for $250 a night, which includes eight general admissions passes. Admission is set for $10 for adults for regular events, kids 7-14 are $5. Children 6 and under are free. Pit passes are $25. For more information, visit or call the track on race day after noon at 594-2222.

  • Taylor Outlaws edged by a run

The slimmest of margins proved to be the difference in determining the outcome of a clash between the Ohio Outlaws Gold and the Virginia Shamrocks in the USA-ASA 16-and-under Nationals on Wednesday in Salem, Va.

  • Tribe Not quite enough

Although the Indians are still very much mathematically alive in the race for a postseason berth, they continue not to look like a playoff team. And when they have put a run together, they haven’t been able to maintain the habit of playing winning baseball.
