Geneva’s gallant run to regional pushes Classic back

Star Beacon

— It’s a pleasure for us to announce our annual postseason softball bash — the Star Beacon Senior Classic — has been pushed back.

With Coach Eleshia Pitcher’s Geneva Eagles winning the Jefferson Division II district championship by taking out top-seeded Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin on Friday at the JAGS Complex, the 2013 Classic has been pushed back a week.

For now... for if the Eagles (21-2) win twice at the Division II regional tournament at Firestone Stadium in Akron next week (their semifinal game is Thursday, with the regional championship game set for Saturday) and advance to the Final Four, played at the same location, we will push the Classic back again.

For now, though, the Classic will be played Sunday, June 2 at the JAGS Complex, with the first pitch slated for 4:30 p.m., which will allows those players who graduate that day the opportunity to play, should they want to.

The Classic features the top senior players from teams in the Star Beacon coverage area.
