PAC makes offers to four to join it

Star Beacon

— The Star Beacon has learned that the Premier Athletic Conference has extended invitations to four schools to come into its loop.

A source said the PAC, which kicked off in the fall of 1998, has extended invitations to Brush, Kenston, Mayfield and West Geauga.

The conference, as it stands, has eight members, including area schools Lakeside, Geneva, Madison and Riverside, along with Chardon, North, South and University School.

There were some rumors that with the invitations and possible expansion, Ashtabula County members Lakeside and Geneva could possibly be pushed out the door.

Turns out, those rumors are unfounded.

“I can tell you that has not even been discussed,” our source said. “All we’ve done, at this point, is extend invitations to those four schools to join us.

“That’s all.”

If all four were to accept the invitations, that would up the PAC’s membership to 12.

How would the league configuration be set?

“That’s not really an issue, yet,” our source said. “It could go in several directions but really, it all depends on how many, if any, of those we’ve invited decided to come in.

“Once we have word on their respective decisions, then we can all sit down and sort it all out and find what’s best for all of us.”

Comforts of home

Conneaut’s Week 6 football game against the non-Ohio High School Athletic Association member Cleveland Knights was originally scheduled to be contested Friday night at Case Western University.

However, the game has been shifted into Ashtabula County and will be played at Conneaut Stadium, kickoff still set for 7 p.m.
