Roundup: Smith bails out Lakers

Two free throws by Andrew Smith with less than 10 seconds remaining gave Pymatuning Valley a 56-55 victory over Bloomfield on the road and kept the Lakers’ winning streak in Northeastern Athletic Conference action alive.
It capped off a monster night for Smith, who finished with 32 points and also led PV (3-0, 2-0) with 12 rebounds. He was backed up by Jon York, who scored 15 points, including a pair of 3-pointers, and dished out seven assists.
Bloomfield opened up a 17-8 lead after the first quarter, but PV used a big second period to take a 27-23 halftime lead. The Cardinals pulled back within 37-35 after three quarters and kept the game tight the rest of the way.
n GRA 81, Lawrence 39 — The Eagles had the game in hand by halftime and made sure of it by scoring at least 20 points in each of the last three quarters. Brady Prewitt led GRA (2-2) with 17 points, while Ryan Shurtleff scored 14, Dennis Jackson added 12 and Jared Gershen had 11 points. Justin Hack led Lawrence (0-3) with nine points.

Girls basketball
Despite 20 points from Chelsea Hanck, Grand Valley was unable to get past Berkshire in Chagrin Valley Conference Valley Division action as the Badgers earned a 54-40 win over the Mustangs. Berkshire (4-1, 3-0) was in double figures in every quarter and held GV (0-3, 0-2) to single digits in the first and third periods. The Badgers got 13 points from Heather Snyder and 10 points each from Jessica Ronyak and Hailey Sedivy. The best support for Hanck, who also led GV with six rebounds, was six points from Angie Ferguson.
