Point of clarification
If there is a Northeastern Conference football race next fall after the league folds up its tent in all other sports after the current school year, it will not include Harvey High School.
That point was confirmed by NEC secretary Dik Pavolino late last week.
Harvey, which entered the NEC with Jefferson when it re-entered the conference in the fall of 1987, will bolt to the Chagrin Valley Conference, starting with the 2009-10 school year.
Geneva will depart the NEC for the Premier Athletic Conference after the 2008-09 school year, following the trail blazed by Lakeside, which did that in 2006-07.
The defections will leave Conneaut, Edgewood and Jefferson on their own, though the three schools have explored and and every option, both collectively and, of late, individually.
What has yet to be solidified yet is whether Geneva will still be tied to the NEC for one last football season next fall — albeit a four-team title chase.
That will be determined this week, reportedly.
It doesn’t compute
According to Ohio high school football computer-point guru Joe Eitel, none of the area’s 12 teams will be in playoff positions when the Ohio High School Athletic Association’s ratings are released later this week.
According to Eitel, despite their 48-21 whipping of Kenston on Friday night, coach Matt Rosati’s Perry Pirates dropped from eighth to ninth in the Division IV, Region 13 ratings.
The top eight teams in each of Ohio’s 24 regions, carved into six divisions, qualify for postseason play.
