Roundup: Lakers scalp Warriors Star Beaconn Jefferson 6, Harvey 0 — Gina Chiacchiero scored two unassisted goals and helped on the first of Sarah Claypool’s two goals to lead the Falcons past the Red Raiders in their NEC opener. Stephanie Cole scored the final goal for Jefferson (1-1-1, 1-0) and assisted on Claypool’s second goal, while Claypool also passed to Amanda Gilchrist on her goal. Jefferson goalkeepers Nicole Stuchell, Emily Fuller and Ariel Meighen turned back eight shots between them in preserving the shutout. Melanie Furtaw had 21 saves in goal for Harvey (1-2, 0-1).
n South 6, Madison 3 — Marianna Smith scored two unassisted goals and Moriah Robinson added another for the Blue Streaks, but it wasn’t enough to hold off the Rebels in Premier Athletic Conference action. Lanie Steigner had 11 saves for Madison (1-2-2, 0-1), while Taylor Mullan had two more Boys soccer Brandon Quirke scored four goals to lead Riverside to a 10-0 victory over Lakeside in the PAC opener for both teams. Phil Murphy scored a goal and assisted on three others for the Beavers (3-0-2, 1-0), while Ian Moeckel scored once and assisted on two more. Jay Brunstetter also had a goal and an assist for Riverside, while Brian Nelson had three saves. Patrick Pildner had nine saves for Lakeside. n South 2, Madison 1 — Curtis Weiss gave the Blue Streaks an early lead with an assist from Brandon Grubb, but the Rebels scored twice in the second half to win the PAC match. Austin Farroni had an unassisted goal and passed for Mike Venditti for the winning goal for South (2-3, 1-0). Casey Blabolil had 10 saves for Madison (1-2-2, 0-1). Volleyball Pymatuning Valley earned a convincing 25-10, 25-15, 25-12 victory over Maplewood in Northeastern Athletic Conference action and remained undefeated. Anissa Miranda led the Lakers (4-0, 3-0) with 14 points, including two ace serves. Rose Lane added 10 points, including two ace serves, and 15 ace sets, while Venus Cataldo had 10 ace spikes and three ace blocks for the Lakers. n Conneaut 25-25-25, Strong Vincent 5-7-11 — Twenty-six points, including 10 ace serves, by Nichele Johnson powered the Spartans to a non-conference victory. Kia Thomas had 12 points, including four ace serves for Conneaut (7-2), while Justine VanCise also had 12 points with seven aces and three ace spikes, Rachel Pryately added 11 points and Krista Vendetti had 10 more. n Chardon 25-25-25, Harvey 16-12-20 — Despite eight points and two ace spikes by Shannon Cruz, the Hilltoppers swept the Red Raiders in non-conference action. Melissa Mohner added four points for Harvey (2-5). Junior high golf With two of its four scorers finishing in the 40s, Lakeside remained undefeated with a 188-245 win over SS. John and Paul. Anthony DeGeorge shot a 43 over the par-36 front nine at Chapel Hills Golf Course, while Zach Tackett fired a 45. John Stranman and Jarrod Vernille rounded out the scoring for the Dragons (7-0) with a pair of 50s. Ryan Nappi paced SJP with a 49, while Joe Paolillo had a 60, Alicia Lewis shot a 67 and Mallory McBee had a 69.
