Paced by a fine round from Dylan Young, the Pymatuning Valley boys golf team earned a 171-193 victory Monday over Edgewood in non-conference action.
Young shot a one-over-par 36 at Andover Golf Course to lead the Lakers (10-2, 7-0 in Northeastern Athletic Conference) to victory. Jon York supported him with a 42, while Adam Lane with a 46 and Zach Fedeo with a 47 rounded out the scoring for PV. Dustin Mills topped Edgewood (3-9) with a 45, while Anthony Zappitelli fired a 47.
Girls golf
Perry’s first two scorers finished well ahead of their two opponents’ first player as it finished with 210 to 231 for Geneva and 274 for SS. John and Paul. Ashley Rideout shot a 45, while Erica Erkkila had for Perry (8-1). Michelle Lang added a 56 and Emily Blaha rounded out the scoring for Perry with a 58. Lindsey Adams led Geneva (8-5) with a 54, while Stephanie Clark carded a 58. Liz Shouvlin topped SJP (2-13) with a 65, while Nicole Gallo added a 68.
n Conneaut 249, North 256 — Powered by a 49 from Kelsey Weske, the Spartans slipped past the Rangers. Laina Iarocci supported Weske with a 57 for Conneaut (5-7), while Alexa Griswold added a 64 and Jill Warren had a 79 to round out the scoring.
Tennis
Two matches were taken to three sets, but Geneva still managed a 5-0 sweep of Edgewood in Northeastern Conference action. Courtney Thompson had the easiest win of the day for the Eagles (7-2, 5-0) with a 6-0, 6-1 win at first singles. while Brittany Kelly was a 6-1, 6-1 winner at third singles and Allie Mack and Sarah Smith were 6-3, 6-0 winners at second doubles. The best battles were at first doubles, where Nichole Boruta and Betsy Edwards rallied from a one-set deficit for a 4-6, 6-2, 6-0 win over Lindsey Robertson and Lizz Walker at first doubles and Jessica Coggins outlasted Connie Tate at second singles, 6-2, 5-7, 6-2.
n Jefferson 5, Harvey 0 — The Falcons stayed within striking distance of Geneva in the NEC tennis race heading to Saturday’s NEC Tournament at Geneva at 8:30 a.m. with their sweep of the Red Raiders. Jackie and Jenny Piscsalko had the most convincing win for Jefferson (6-3, 4-1) with a 6-2, 6-2 decision at first doubles. Carey Hartman worked the hardest for her victory, a 6-4, 6-4 decision at third singles.
n Chardon 3, Lakeside 2 — The Dragons held a 2-1 lead after singles, but couldn’t hold its advantage in the doubles in the Premier Athletic Conference match. Marissa Dioneff shut out her opponent at third singles for the Dragons (4-7, 2-3), while Megan Reichert was a 6-4, 6-4 winner at second singles.
n Hawken 5, Perry 0 — The Pirates were able to manage just 10 games off the Hawks in Chagrin Valley Conference action. The closest battle was at first doubles, where Emily and Kaley Kahoun dropped a 6-2, 6-2 decision.
Girls soccer
Stacy Mead gave Geneva the only goal it really needed with 25 minutes left in the match on an assist from Jordyn Barrington and Emma Kingzett added an insurance goal four minutes later to give the Eagles a 2-0 win over Edgewood in the NEC opener for both teams. Jillian Nazor stopped all five shots she faced for Geneva (4-0-1, 1-0). Kingzett has scored unassisted on three corner kicks in the last two matches. Cayli Calogero had nine saves for Edgewood.
