Tessa Kellar’s unassisted goal with 10 minutes left in the match powered Pymatuning Valley’s girls soccer team to a 3-2 victory over visiting Jefferson in non-conference action Saturday.
PV built a 2-0 lead in the first half on unassisted goals by Lauren McNeilly and Nicole Virostek, but Amanda Gilchrist tied the match with 15 minutes still remaining by scoring on a penalty kick and an unassisted goal. That set the stage for Kellar’s decisive goal.
Jefferson thought it had tied the match with eight minutes still remaining on a shot by Gina Chiacchiero, but Jefferson coach Chris Fuentes said officials disallowed the goal.
“I don’t know why (they waved it off),” Fuentes said. “The PV girls even rolled the ball out.”
Lauren Seman had 10 saves in goal for PV. Emily Fuller had 12 saves for Jefferson (0-1-1).
n Geneva 7, Euclid 0 — Emma Kingzett scored three goals, two of which were unassisted, to lead the Eagles to their non-conference win over the Panthers. Kingzett also assisted on one of two goals by Krista Blake. Suelen Gutierrez and Stacy Mead each had an unassisted goal and an assist. Goalie Jillian Nazor did not have to face a shot for Geneva (3-0-1).
Boys soccer
Brandon Quirke scored on an assist for Phil Murphy in the 62nd minute of the match to give Riverside a 1-0 non-conference victory in a match played at Lake Erie College. Brian Nelson had five saves in goal for Riverside (2-0-2), while Juan Pacheco had four saves for Harvey (2-2).
Volleyball
Conneaut swept a pair of non-conference matches played at Champion. The Spartans defeated the host school, 25-20, 25-15, as Kelsey Prevot scored 12 points, Rachel Pryately had 10 and Nichele Johnson added nine. The Spartans (6-2) topped Bristol, 25-10, 25-9, as Tanisha Ford scored 13 points and Sarah Campbell and Johnson contributed eight points each.
n Lakeside 25-25, Chardon 9-12 — Angela DeGeorge led the Dragons to victory over the host Hilltoppers in their meeting at the Chardon Invitational with nine points. Christiana Blakeslee added seven ace spikes and seven points.
n Lakeside 25-25, Cardinal 12-11 — Thirteen points from Erica Villa powered the Dragons past the Huskies. Tayler Pugliese added 10 points, five ace spikes and 21 ace sets.
n Crestwood 25-25, Lakeside 21-23 — Despite five points and eight ace spikes each from Blakeslee and Pugliese, the Dragons (6-2, 2-0 Premier Athletic Conference) lost in the championship match to Crestwood.
