Week 2 was somewhat better for area teams, although they still combined for a losing record. A 5-7 mark brings the cumulative total to 8-16.
Three of the games played last week were between pairs of area schools, meaning that the area went 2-4 against outsiders, for an overall mark of 3-11.
I probably shouldn’t say this, but the area’s record against outside schools — other than Wickliffe — is just 1-11.
Here is our weekly rundown of how area conferences are performing:
n 1. CHAGRIN VALLEY CONFERENCE, VALLEY DIVISION (6-4) — For the second straight week, it comes in with a record of 3-2. Grand Valley, the area’s representative, is 1-1, while Berkshire and Kirtland are 2-0.
n 2. PREMIER ATHLETIC CONFERENCE (6-6) — A 4-2 mark brings the league up to the .500 mark. The three area teams went 2-1. North is the only school at 2-0.
n 3. CHAGRIN VALLEY CONFERENCE, CHAGRIN DIVISION (7-9) — A better week for this loop, although at 4-4, still disappointing given its past level of success.Perry, the only area school included, is 2-0, making it the only institution in the division, as well as the entire area, to accomplish that.
n 4. NORTHEASTERN CONFERENCE (3-7) — A 2-3 week was a step up from 1-4. Edgewood and Jefferson are still searching for their first wins.
n 5. EAST SUBURBAN CONFERENCE (4-12) — Oddly, each of the eight teams did exactly the same thing as they did in the first week, as far as winning and losing is concerned, that is. Area schools Pymatuning Valley and SS. John and Paul are both at 0-2. Ledgemont and Southington are 2-0.
This week, once again there will be three games played between pairs of area schools, and this time all are rivalries. Harvey will host crosstown rival Riverside, while Perry travels to Madison to rekindle an old showdown, and Grand Valley will make the short trek to Andover to take on Pymatuning Valley.
