Chris Blakeslee had 15 ace sets and seven ace spikes to help Lakeside cruise past South 25-16, 25-18, 25-19 in Premier Athletic Conference volleyball action.
Tayler Pugliese contributed 14 aces sets on 25-of-27 setting, and Erica Villa turned in a near-perfect 22-of-23 passing performance. Mallory Zappitelli was 9-of-10 spiking with six aces, and Angela DeGeorge was 12 of 13 passing.
n Cornerstone Christian 33, 25, 25, SS. John and Paul 31, 23, 20 — The Heralds could never find a way to put away Cornerstone Christian in their non-conference showdown. The Heralds had a strong passing night, with Sara Blank leading the way with a 65-of-65 setting performance. Kristina Krumins was 35-of-35 setting, and Carly Penna was 45-49 passing.
Mary Mahoney had 17 points for the Heralds, while Ashley Fedler had 16 and Penna and Jenn Kapalin turned in 11 points apiece.
n Berkshire 25, 25, 25, Grand Valley 13, 6, 8 — Randi Woodworth’s perfect passing night wasn’t enough to save Grand Valley. Woodworth went 23-of-23 passing with 13 digs. Pallavi Iyer contributed a 39-of-43 setting night.
n North 25, 25, 25, Madison 12, 18, 12 — Breanna Wilson and Taylor Southall had seven points apiece for Madison, which fell to 5-3 overall.
n Pymatuning Valley 25, 25, 25, Bloomfield 15, 18, 12 — Brandy Romanowski and Jenn Tennant had 12 points apiece, and Kayla Landis had a perfect passing night to lead PV. Landis went 37-of-37 passing, including six ace passes, for the victors.
Lyndsay Carr was 30-of-31 passing, and Tennant was 35-of-35 setting.
n Harvey 25, 25, 25, Andrews 14, 9, 14 — Shannon Cruz had 14 points and Sam Krueger was 56-of-56 setting as Harvey cruised past Andrews.
n Chagrin Falls 23, 25, 25, 27, Perry 25, 18, 16, 25 — Perry couldn’t keep the momentum of its strong start going, falling to Chagrin in four games. Rachel Crittle had 13 ace spikes for Perry, Erin Kline had 17 ace sets and Averi Kuhlman had eight points.
n Conneaut 25, 25, 25, Linesville (Pa.) 23, 11, 16 — Sarah Campbell had 21 points and Tanisha Ford provided 20 to lead Conneaut. Justine VanCise turned in a 27-of-28 passing performance, and Nichele Johnson was 19-of-21 spiking with five aces.
Girls tennis
The Geneva girls dropped just nine games, and no sets, to down Madison on Thursday, 5-0.
The most competitive match of the afternoon came at third singles, where Hannah Reynolds pushed Betsy Edwards in the second set before falling, 6-2, 6-4. Courtney Thompson swept past Madison’s Lillian Zalar, 6-0, 6-0, in first singles, while Brittany Kelly claimed a 6-1, 6-1, win over Ashley Palmer at the second singles spot.
