COLUMBUS (AP) — What’s brewing today with the 2008 Ohio State Buckeyes ...
n BUCKEYES BUZZ — Lost in the haze surrounding the foot injury of Chris “Beanie” Wells is that Terrelle Pryor is already No. 2 on the depth chart at QB.
Todd Boeckman ran just two series before Pryor took over in Saturday’s 43-0 rout of Youngstown State. Reporters had been led to believe throughout fall practice that Joe Bauserman was the backup and Pryor was No. 3 on the depth chart.
“I guess the only thing you can read (into) is that was our opinion, that that’s what we should do at that moment,” coach Jim Tressel said Tuesday. “As you’ve watched 20 some practices, he’s done an evolution. For a freshman to come in, we haven’t said, ’OK, we’ve got these five plays and that’s all he has to learn.’ He’s learned the entire situation and he’s done a good job.”
Boeckman was under center for 40 plays, Pryor for 22 and Bauserman for 17 against the Penguins.
Asked on Tuesday if Pryor would still be Boeckman’s top backup, Tressel said, “If the game were today, he would.”
n LINE OF THE DAY — After some off-field problems, WR and PR Ray Small was unsure if he still might be in Tressel’s doghouse.
“Well, don’t tell him either way. Just tell him he’s still in,” Tressel cracked.
Asked if indeed had a doghouse, Tressel added, “Yeah. A big one.”
n QUOTABLE — Ohio University MLB Noah Keller is from Kearney, Neb., but he has an idea what it must be like for so many players to be coming home to play in the Horseshoe on Saturday: “We’ve got a lot of guys on the team from Columbus. I know they’re real excited for the game. I think it’d be the same if we went back and played Nebraska. What are those chances, you know? They don’t come around very often.”
n M.A.S.H. UNIT — WR Brian Robiskie still has pain in his shoulder but remains available to play. SS Kurt Coleman missed the YSU game with an ankle injury, but has returned to practice and may play against the Bobcats.
In addition third-team kicker Ben Buchanan was taken to a hospital on Monday night, possibly facing an appendectomy. More later on his status.
n HE’S BAA-AACK — DL Doug Worthington was held out of the starting lineup because of a DUI arrest this summer. He got in for about a dozen plays. Tressel said he may see more time against Ohio.
