Maggie Boyle took a pass from Holly Spees and scored the go-ahead goal early in the second half in Conneaut’s 2-1 win over Pymatuning Valley. Kaylin Thompson scored off a Boyle assist for an early 1-0 lead for the Spartans (2-0).
Nicole Virostek scored an unassisted goal for the Lakers.
Boys soccer
n Harvey 3, Cornerstone Christian 2 — Jose Camarillo found the back of the net off an assist from Oscar Preza to put the Red Raiders (1-0) ahead for good in the 68th minute. Camarillo scored twice and Ivan Guerra added another goal.
n Conneaut 4, Chardon 1 — Dane Malys scored twice and assisted on two goals as the Spartans (3-0) scored three unanswered goals in the second half. Steven Joslin and Kyle Clancy each scored for Conneaut.
n Geneva 8, Grand Valley 0 — Tyler Carlisle scored twice had an assist and Sean Dunlap and Brian Mead each scored a goal and added an assist.
Boys golf
n Geneva 167, Harvey 251 — Brad Nicholson fired a 40, Pete Newmeyer carded a 41 and Derek Kovach added a 42 for the Eagles (4-3, 3-0 in Northeastern Conference) on the par-36 front nine at Painesville Country Club. Kasey Komjati and Andrew McNamee each shot a 51 for Harvey (0-5, 0-3).
n South 155, Lakeside 166, Conneaut 214 — Preston Wright tallied a 40 while Kevin Acierno and Bryan Schlack each shot a 41 for the Dragons on the par-35 front nine at Chapel Hills. Andrew Bunnell paced Conneaut with a 47.
Girls golf
n Jefferson 211, Edgewood 213 — Shelly Ford finished the par-36 back nine at Village Green with a 38 to lead the Falcons (6-3, 2-0 in NEC). Christen Lucas added a 55. Yeram Kang led the Warriors (6-5, 1-1 in NEC) with a 42.
n South 187, Lakeside 232, North 264 — Krista Johnson was the Dragons’ leader with a 50 on the par-36 front nine at Manakiki. Tiffany Park carded a 56 for Lakeside (5-1).
Volleyball
n Geneva 25-25-25, Chardon 7-19-8 — Taylor Webb was 18-of-21 spiking with 12 aces and Breana Freeman was 35-36 setting with 16 aces to lead the Eagles in their season-opener.
n SS. John and Paul 25-25-25, Ledgemont 14-15 8 — Mary Mahoney was 25-of-26 spiking with 13 aces and 11-of-16 blocking with six aces for the Heralds (2-0). Jessica Hunyady was 10-10 spiking with eight aces and scored 18 points with four aces serving.
n Madison 14-25-16-25-15, Harvey 15-19-25-22-12 — Sam Krueger was 96-of-100 setting and 18-of-25 passing, Shannon Cruz was 30-of-39 spiking with 11 aces and scored 21 points for the Red Raiders (1-2). Melissa Mohner had five ace spikes and Star Sams added four.
Tennis
n Perry 5, Madison 0 — Kaley Kahoun, Laura Teigeler anad Olivia Woycheck-Wright combined to lose just one game in singles play for the Pirates (4-1).
n Geneva 4, Jefferson 1 — Courtney Thompson and Jessica Coggins won at first and second singles and the doubles teams of Nichole Boruta and Betsy Edwards and Allie Mack and Sara Smith also won for the Eagles (4-1, 3-0 in NEC). Julia Mansfield won at third singles for the Falcons (3-1, 1-1 in NEC).
n JFK 5, Lakeside 0 — The doubles team of Lisa Rowan and Sam Reho scored the first game of the match at first doubles for Lakeside (1-6, 0-2 in PAC). Taylor Palmer and Shelby DeCamillo were also able to gain victories in a few games.
Boys cross country
Richard Palo finished second in 18:25 to lead Pymatuning Valley to a third-place finish with 105 points in the Suburban League meet at Niles. McDonald won with 34 points.
Kyle Eastlake (19:33) was 11th, Zach Jones (21:15) was 29th, Hunter Hamilton (21:18) was 31st and Tyler Gruskiewicz (21:10) was 33rd.
Girls cross country
Samantha Turner and Felicia Morrison both placed in the top 10 to lead PV to fourth place in the Suburban League meet at Niles. Turner was sixth in 23:44 and Morrison was eighth in 24:12. They were followed by Ami Turner (24th, 25:51), Alexis Cunningham (25th, 25:53) and Vanessa Thompson (39th, 26:55).
