Backin’ the Browns

With expectations soaring sky-high for the 2008 season, the Cleveland Browns will be getting some more support locally this campaign.

The West Andover Browns Backers are up and running and, in fact, will be getting into the swing of things on Saturday.

The first West Andover Browns Backers Golf Outing will be held on Saturday at Andover Golf Club.

The event will begin at 1 p.m. and a flag-raising ceremony will be held at 9 a.m. at the Inn Lounge in West Andover.

According to organization president Kirk White, the chapter plans to gather to watch the Browns play each week. He also said the group will also be assisting various local youth programs and will be donating mouthguards to the Pymatuning Valley High School football team in the near future.

Dept. of corrections

Speaking of Pymatuning Valley football, Lakers head coach Jason Root emailed on Thursday to let us know his squad will be hosting coach Joe Kearney’s Edgewood Warriors in a scrimmage on Saturday at 10 a.m. at Laker Stadium.

We had the scrimmage taking place today in our Thursday edition.

Trading places

Phil Rogers, one of the most respected professional baseball beat writers in the country, said the Indians did very well in their recent trades of CC Sabathia and Casey Blake.
