CONNEAUT — John Lacki backed up his Freedom Classic win with his second triumph of the year in the Precision Weld Fab FASTRAK Late Model finale.
Jack Young solidified his bid for his first-ever tack championship at Raceway 7 with his second feature win of the season in the Applebee Motorsports E-Mods. Dan Lewis won the Joslin-Landis Street Stock feature in a wild last-lap scramble for the win. Rod Jones again led the Modified Lites to the checkers and Ed Huge won another Mini-Stock feature..
Bob Dorman and Scott Jones were at the front of the field when the Precision Weld Fab FASTRAK Late Models took the green flag with Dorman leading from the start, looking for his second win of the season. Lacki got by Jones for second on Lap Four and began chasing down the leader.
One lap later, Jones slammed the front straight wall bringing caution over the raceway, but he was able to continue. Dorman led the field to the restart with 11th-starting Dick Barton now up to fourth behind second-running Lacki and third-running Dennis Lunger.
At the start, Lacki shot by Dorman and began distancing himself from the rest of the field. Lunger got by Dorman at Lap Seven along with Barton. At halfway, Lacki had a straightaway lead over Lunger. Lacki cruised the rest of the way, methodically picking his way through the lapped traffic with Lunger having his hands full of Barton but holding on for second. Fourth at the line was Dorman with Bobby Powell fifth.
Points co-leader Young led from the pole in the Applebee Motorsports E-Mod feature with the fourth-place points car of Rich Michael Jr. in hot pursuit. Michael was never able to close during the event as Young went on to his second win of the season with Percy McDonald third at the stripe. Dave Willoughby was fourth with Jeff Sharp fifth.
Young now has sole possession of the point lead with only one race left to decide the point champion. Ron Roncaglione will head into the final week of points racing second in the rundown with Michael moving to third ahead of early season leader Gary Eicher.
Former track champion Dave Ferringer took off with the lead at the drop of the green outside front-row sitter Jason Stanke falling to fourth behind Lewis and Jason Reagle by the time of the first caution at Lap Two when Charlie Beck and Shaun Fawcett got together in Turn Two.
By the end of Lap Five, Reagle was using the inside to make an attempt on the lead, but Ferringer was able to hang on until Lap 12 when Reagle was able to slip by in lapped traffic, just as yellow flew over the raceway, negating the pass and putting Ferringer back in the lead for the restart.
After green, Reagle was again all over Ferringer’s rear bumper but another yellow interrupted the action with two laps left. On the Lap 13 green, Reagle got shuffled to the high side, losing several spots in the process.
One more yellow would interrupt the action in Turn One of the final lap. The final one-lap dash for the cash had Lewis get alongside Ferringer in Turn One and get by headed down the back chute the final time. Then Ferringer slipped high in the final set of turns, falling back to sixth at the checkers. Wheeler wound up second with Steve D’Apolito third.
John Cross led the opening lap of the Mini-Stock feature with Huge taking over at the point on Lap Two. He went on to the win over Vince Simms and Joe Plesniak.
Jones led the Modified Lites flag-to-flag through several cautions to win his second of two features this summer. Mikey Hay was second with Bud Watson third.
