Once again this fall, Joe Pete will be broadcasting games from area football stadiums.
“After a year’s absence doing high school football, it is great to be back,” Pete, the director of sports/sales for ESPN Radio 970 WFUN said. “We are looking forward to a great season of high school football action in northeast Ohio.”
Only this time around, the ESPN Radio 970 WFUN coverage will be slightly different. Pete will be doing his show, The Sports Report, from the site of the game as a lead-in to the game broadcast.
The Sports Report will begin at 5 p.m. from the stadiums with the pregame show starting at 6:30 on ESPN Radio 970 WFUN.
But ESPN Radio 970 won’t be the only game in town. Sister station WYBL 98.3 FM The Bull will also get in on the action.
The Bull will broadcast five Conneaut High School home games.
“It has always been a goal of mine and Media One President Dana Schulte’s to expand our sports coverage here at Media One Radio and I was so happy and excited when this all came together,” Pete said. “I believe this is a win-win situation for everyone involved, especially for the student-athletes that will get additional chances to be on the radio and on TV.”
The Conneaut games will also be simulcast and tape-delayed for Conneaut Cable 541 Television Channel.
“To also partner up with Ken Johnson and Cable Suite 541 Television is just icing on the cake for us,” Pete said. “We already have a great working relationship with Ken and his fine staff here and this is just going to expand that fine relationship. I know from the past, working with television how much people enjoy watching our high school games on the big tube. This will be fantastic for everyone involved and I am really pumped up about this partnership.”
Pete will be joined in the booth by long-time partner Ed Looman and Brad Petro, a partner from his early days on the Kent State University Television Channel. Dale Milano will be back handling the spotting and statistics duties.
“Ed, Brad and Dale are three of my closet friends and are all outstanding at what they do,” Pete said. “It is great to be reunited with them. Our fans and listeners will get a professional, entertaining broadcast giving our student-athletes as much recognition and publicity as possible.”
Mike Joslin and Nick Iarocci will handle all of the broadcasting duties on The Bull.
“We are extremely excited to have Mike and Nick doing these games for us at Media One and on the Bull 98.3 FM,” Pete said. “They do an outstanding job and have many years of experience in the broadcast booth and have their own unique way of bringing the action to their listeners. I have always been a huge fan of theirs and I know they are well respected by everyone in the area and will do a great job.”
Each game that will be broadcast on WFUN will be announced at least a week ahead of time.
