On second thought...
The Junior League state softball tournament coming to the Cederquist Park Complex this weekend will be a brief one, but at least there will be one.
The Senior Softball state tournament was also scheduled for this weekend at Cederquist but was dropped when only one district from the entire state, the District 11, was able to put together a team.
There will be a Junior League tournament, but only three districts supplied teams — District 1’s Ashtabula team, a District 2 team from the Youngstown area still to be determined and a District 11 team from West Portsmouth.
Action begins today at 11 a.m. with District 1 playing District 2. The winner of that game will play District 11 at 1:30 p.m.
The losers of today’s games will meet at 1 p.m. Sunday. The winner advances to a double-elimination championship round as the losers’ bracket champion against the doubleheader winner from today, or winners’ bracket champion, starting at 3 p.m.
If the losers’ bracket champion wins that game, a decisive game for the state title and a trip to the regional tournament at Akron beginning Aug. 1 will be played Monday afternoon.
