Slammin’ Sam Chaney is still not quite old enough to drive, but he sure knows how to drive a pitch.
Chaney clobbered an over-the-fence homer — a shot that went through an open front window of a van parked behind the center field fence at Cederquist Park — and helped the Angels motor their way to a 6-1 triumph against the White Sox in a win that clinched the Ashtabula Minors American League championship Wednesday night.
Rafael Giancola backed up Chaney with three hits, Marcus Ernst adding one, as the Angels improved to a stellar 16-0 on the season.
Ernst, Chaney and Giancola combined on a three-hitter, striking out 11 on the bump for the champions.
Ethan Czup smacked two of the three hits for the Pale Hose (13-5), Ty Winchell clipping the other.

Amber Kiphart (3 singles, 3 RBI), Stephanie Davis (double, 2 singles, 3 RBI) and Paige Waldron (double, 2 singles, RBI) all had big nights at the plate as the Delta Railroad Phillies flogged the Ryber Development Thunder, 16-8, in a tournament matchup.
Taylor Cochran had four hits, including a double, and drove home four runs for the Weather Girls, while Jamie Verno had three knocks and two ribbies.
Davis fanned eight on the mound to earn the pitching win.

In all-star action, Ashtabula County topped Conneaut, 9-3, and Cleveland Northeast whipped Perry, 30-5.
