Chardon girls, North and South boys claim PAC track crowns

Star Beacon

The chases for the girls and boys championship at the Premier Athletic Conference Track Meet on Wednesday at Chardon couldn’t have been much tighter, with Chardon walking away with the girls title and North and South tying for the boys championship.

Chardon’s girls defeated Madison, which had won in the dual meet between the two squads, by a 1661⁄2-161 margin. Riverside was third with 108 points, while Lakeside was fifth with 22.

In the boys meet, North and South tied with 122 points each with Riverside close behind with 119. South had to forfeit some PAC dual meets during the regular season, so North would have the upper hand. Lakeside was fifth with 411⁄3, while Madison was sixth with 311⁄3.

Madison’s girls got solid work from several athletes. Distance standout Jill Dickman won the 1600-meter run in 5:29.1 and led off the winning 3200-meter relay with Jillanne Mackey, Skye Robinson and Marissa Von Gunten in 10:09.8. Chelsea Lovell won the discus at 117-0 and the shot put at 36-113⁄4.

Von Gunten won the 300-meter hurdles for the Blue Streaks in 48.5. Mackey took the 800-meter run in 2:26.4.

Karena Sezawich won the 3200-meter run for Lakeside in 11:53.3, finishing ahead of Dickman.

Riverside’s girls got wins from its 800-meter relay of Clare Duffy, Kelly Kohr, Emily Rigo and Madalyn Trout in 1:51.5 and its 1600-meter relay of Megan Hazel, Cierra Hungerford, Trout and Deanna Gundling in 4:19.4

In the boys meet, Riverside’s victories came from Phil Hallahan in the pole vault at 12-0 and the 800-meter relay of Frank Mangano, Dakota Burk, L.T. Smith and Josh Denner in 1:34.3.

Lakeside’s boys got a win from its 400-meter relay of Derrell McCaleb, Gerald Murphy, Mike Turner and Kevin McCaleb Jr. in 45.5.

Joe Teter produced the only win for the Madison boys in the 1600-meter run in 4:33.8.
