MADISON TOWNSHIP — Wednesday’s Signing Day ceremony at Madison High School was a big day for Blue Streak offensive lineman Kyle Glass, too.
The 6-foot-41⁄2, 270-pound signed his national letter of intent to attend the newly formed Division II program at Lake Erie College in Painesville. The Storm will enter their first official year of operation in the fall after functioning as a club team last year.
“I’m ecstatic to be going to Lake Erie,” the son of Teresa Glass, who sat at a table next to teammate Nic DiLillo with his mother and his stepfather, Jeff Trobenter, at the signing ceremony in the Madison High School chorus room, said. “I chose Lake Erie over Edinboro, Mercyhurst and Ashland because it was close to home and my parents will be able to attend all my games.
“This is a new experience and great experience for me. I’m really looking forward to it. It’s going to give me an opportunity to play more with some of my old high school teammates and a lot of players from other schools I played against in high school. That will be an interesting experience.”
Glass didn’t mind sharing the spotlight with DiLillo.
“I’m so glad for Nic that he got hooked up with Ohio State,” he said. “I don’t mind this at all. Nic has been a great teammate. I wish him the best at Ohio State.”
Madison head football coach Tim Willis, who attended the ceremony in a wheelchair and later on crutches after undergoing double knee replacement on Jan. 17, expressed as equal pride in Glass as in DiLillo.
“I’m just as proud of Kyle as I am of Nic,” he said. “There’s no difference between them. It all just works out in different ways. We’ve been really blessed to have them both in our program. This is a great day for the Madison football program.”
