Following a 48-19 Northeastern Athletic Conference win at Badger on Monday night, the Pymatuning Valley girls basketball team is off to the best in coach Jeff Compan’s tenure.
“We had a couple of six-game win streaks last year,” Compan said. “But this is easily the best streak we’ve had under me.”
The Lakers are 11-0 (8-0) to start the season.
“We’ve talked a whole lot about our record,” Compan said. “We want to build momentum for the tournament. We want to get better, play at our level and not play sloppy.”
The best start the Lakers ever had was 20-0 under then-coach Melody Nowakowski, now an assistant for Compan, during the 1996-97 season.
Constance Stech tallied 13 points and seven rebounds to lead the Lakers over the Braves (1-12, 0-9). Rose Lane added 10 points and Kayla Landis added nine.
The Lakers made 14 steals in holding Badger to just 19 points.
“We gave up 31 to them the other day,” Compan said. “We wanted to focus on keeping them in front of us and playing defense. We’re real pleased with our defensive effort.”
Lane, Landis and Olivia Holt each had three steals.
