Beacom appointed general manager at Register-News

ASHTABULA — The Star Beacon’s director of advertising sales is leaving in late July to accept a new position in Mt. Vernon, Ill.

Jamie Beacom will be the general manager at the Register-News, a sister newspaper of the Star Beacon owned by CNHI.

He was appointed director of advertising sales at the Star Beacon in 2008. He began his career with CNHI as a sales representative in the Star Beacon’s advertising department in May 2003.

An Ashtabula native, Beacom graduated from Kent State University, Kent, in 1991 with a bachelor’s in business management degree. Before coming to the Star Beacon, he worked at Enterprise Rent-A-Car for five years.

“Being a lifelong resident of Ashtabula, it was a very difficult family decision to take on this new challenge,” he said. “We are very excited to get to Mount Vernon and immerse ourselves in the community. I look forward to becoming part of the team at the Register-News and working to make it a top performer for CNHI, just like the Star Beacon.”

Beacom and his wife, Lisa, will celebrate 20 years of marriage on July 3. They have two daughters, Katie, 20, who attends Kent State University, and Marlee, 5, at home.

Beacom said he will miss all his teammates at the Star Beacon, and thanks them.

“You cannot become successful in this business without great people working beside you, and I definitely experienced that here,” he said. “Special thanks to Jim Frustere, publisher, for giving me the opportunity six years ago, and Michelle Williams (in advertising and graphics) because without her assistance none of this would be possible.”

Frustere said a search has begun to find a successor to Beacom at the Star Beacon.
