Suspects from drug raid charged with felonies

CONNEAUT — The city solicitor filed felony charges Friday afternoon against four residents suspected of dealing in illegal methamphetamines, according to Conneaut Municipal Court officials.

Jeffery K. Barnard, 31, and David V. Barnard, 38, both of 801 Middle Road; Robert S. Barnard, 35, of 475 Harbor St., and Mercedes M. Wade, 20, of 434 Main Road W., all of Conneaut, were arrested Wednesday after a police raid at the Middle Road residence, said Police Chief Jon Arcaro.

On Friday, Jeffery Barnard was charged with having weapons under disability and aggravated trafficking of drugs, both felonies.

David Barnard and Robert Barnard were each charged with complicity, first-degree felonies.

Wade was charged with illegal assembly or possession of chemicals for manufacturing of drugs, a second-degree felony, court officials said.

A fifth suspect, Sean Barnard, was picked up by Andover police and is being held for Conneaut authorities, police said. He also was charged with illegal assembly or possession of chemicals for manufacturing of drugs, a second-degree felony.

The Conneaut arrests were made without incident shortly after 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Barnards’ Middle Road address, Arcaro said. Because weapons were believed inside, canine units and special weapons and tactics officers aided police in the arrests, he said. Officers armed with a search warrant entered the house and found methamphetamines, cash and weapons, Arcaro said.

Wade was arrested after police raided the house. She arrived in a vehicle outfitted as a mobile meth lab, Arcaro said. Wade had her 2-year-old daughter with her, he said. The child is now in the care of authorities, according to Arcaro.

The suspects are no strangers to area law enforcement, Arcaro said. The raid capped an ongoing investigation, which was in the works for “some time,” he said.
