Geneva PD opens civil service test to potential police officers

GENEVA — Applications are now being accepted to take the city’s newly-established police officer eligibility list and civil service test.

The test, which establishes entrance, promotions, and other aspects of employment, includes a written, oral and physical test, Police Chief Dan Dudik said.

The physical agility test will be held March 17 at the Cuyahoga County Community College. The written test will be held at 6 p.m. March 21 at the Geneva Community Center.

Applications are available at the Geneva City Manager Jim Pearson’s Office at Geneva City Hall, 44 N. Forest St. Applicants must have an Ohio police officer training certificate at their time of appointment.

Pearson said 75 applications will be accepted, and must be picked up by March 14. The applications and $25 fee must be returned on or before 3 p.m. March 15.

Dudik said the city is looking to establish an eligibility list for police officer applicants — a list that city administrators will use the list to choose potential candidates for future open full time positions within the police department.

“Applicants who are chosen from that list will have the opportunity to undergo further testing for the eligibility of police officer,” he said.

Anyone can take the civil service test, though applicants must complete police training by the time of their hiring, Dudik said.
