N.Y. bank robber looks like Conneaut suspect

CONNEAUT — A man who robbed a Jamestown, N.Y., bank earlier this month closely resembles the suspect who took cash from a Huntington Bank in Conneaut later that week, said Conneaut Police Chief Charles Burlingham.

Images of the Jamestown robber, studied by city police, strongly indicates the same man committed both crimes, Burlingham said Tuesday. “He’s identical to our guy,” Burlingham said.

The robber in both crimes is still at large.

On Nov. 8, a man wearing black jeans, leather jacket and a Pittsburgh Pirates baseball cap presented a note to a Huntington teller demanding cash. No weapon was displayed and no one was hurt, police said.

That same week, banks were robbed in New York state and the Erie, Pa., area, police said. Last week, authorities arrested two Erie men in connection with three bank robberies in and around that city. One man, age 34, confessed to robbing two banks, while a 27-year-old acquaintance said he robbed the third bank, according to the Erie Times-News website.

Police discovered the pair while investigating the death of a 28-year-old man found in a hotel room on Nov. 11, the newspaper reported. The robbery suspects had visited the dead man at the hotel, Erie police said.

Conneaut investigators do not believe the two suspects were involved in the Huntington robbery. Police are awaiting images of the dead man, Burlingham said.

People with information are asked to contact the police department (440-593-7440) or the department’s confidential tip line (440-593-7423).
