An assistant treasurer was tapped Monday as treasurer and chief financial officer for Ashtabula Area City Schools.
Jackie Miranda, who is the assistant treasurer for the city school district, will begin her new duties March 1 when Treasurer William Hill retires.
“I’m leaving the district in very capable hands,” Hill said. “I've enjoyed working here very much but Jackie (Miranda) is an outstanding selection.”
Miranda began her career at Pymatuning Valley School District where she worked as a payroll clerk and education management information system coordinator.
“It was a wonderful experience not only because that is where I attended school but because my mother, Elynne Slater, was the treasurer for many years,” she said.
Miranda holds a degree in business management and is a licensed school treasurer.
“The state has very specific requirements. It is a very time consuming and challenging process,” she said. “Being a chief financial officer is a demanding job but I am ready and excited to begin.”
The school board named Hill interim treasurer in October 2008 after accepting treasurer Michele Tullai’s resignation. Hill has recently retired from Buckeye Local Schools.
It wasn’t long before Hill took on the Ashtabula City Schools job as a permanent position.
He announced his retirement in January.
