Ashtabula Township trailer burned three times in less than a week

ANDOVER TOWNSHIP — Firefighters will not have any difficulty finding Edgewood Trailer Park after getting called to put out fires three times at the same trailer in less than a week, said Ashtabula Township Fire Chief Mike Fitchet.

“This is the third time this week this has burned,” Fitchet said around 4:30 a.m. Thursday. He said the department was called to the trailer on Saturday, Monday and early Thursday morning.

Fitchet said the trailer on lot 308 was totally destroyed during the last fire.

Fitchet said the three fires got progressively worse. “Today it was totally involved,” he said.

Fitchet said the owner of the park has been trying to get rid of some of the older trailers and cleaning the place up. He said the owner of the trailer that burned owns three or four different trailers in the park.

The Thursday morning fire was called in at 4 a.m. and firefighters arrived on the scene five minutes later, according to Ashtabula Township fire reports. The report indicates firefighters remained on the scene until 5:36 a.m.

Eight or nine firefighters from Ashtabula Township and Ashtabula fire departments battled the blaze and brought it under control in a short time.

All utilities were turned off and there wasn’t anything in the trailer.

“This fire  is suspicious in nature due to the fact there are no utilities. The State Fire Marshall was called in to help with the fire. The (cause of) the fire is undetermined and under investigation,” the fire report states.

“Fire Marshall John Webbed had his arson dog check for accelerants (and) Fire Marshall Todd Stitt took samples and sent them off to the laboratory,” the report states.
