The holiday season gets underway in the historic Ashtabula harbor on Saturday.
The celebration begins from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. with breakfast with Santa at the River’s Edge Diner, 1001 Bridge St.
A scavenger hunt (by guessing the songs in the merchants’ windows) will go on from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., and there will be live music at the Harbor Perk from 10 a.m. to noon.
Children’s stories will be read by Georgene Bethel from noon to 1 p.m. at Lift Bridge Landing, 1032 Bridge St.
A merchant’s raffle will go on from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. by picking up and dropping off punch cards at Heartmade Boutique. Spend at least $20 in five different participating stores and/or restaurants and receive a punch from each store.
Once the card is full, drop it off to be entered in a drawing for a 37-inch Vizio TV and Home Theater System provided by the Lift Bridge Community Association. A winner will be drawn at 7:15 p.m.
Christmas Carolers will be singing on the street throughout the day, and cookies will be available in participating stores.
Visitors will discover Bridge Street decorated with clear lights and natural pine garland. Many stores will be offering discounts all day.
After enjoying a day of holiday shopping, visitors can head a stone’s throw east to Lake Shore Park to see Ashtabula County’s Lights on the Lake, the biggest drive-through light display in northeast Ohio. The gates open at 6 p.m. and tickets are $5 per carload.
