A 37-year-old Eastlake woman was arrested over the weekend for allegedly beating her 80-year-old grandmother.
Domestic violence charges were filed against Shannon D. Costella, 1273 E. 348th St., Monday in Eastern County Court. She was arraigned Monday afternoon in Judge Robert Wynn’s courtroom. Bond was set at $3,000 cash or 10 percent surety, according to court records.
Ashtabula County Sheriff’s Department deputies were dispatched to the 6000 block of Marvin Road in Andover Township at about 9:40 p.m. Saturday. When deputies arrived, the 80-year-old victim had already been transported to St. Joseph Medical Center, according to reports.
Costella reportedly told deputies she had taken medication for depression and back pain prior to the incident and could not recall all of the events.
According to Costella’s mother, who witnessed the alleged assault, she observed Costella beating the woman in the face. She told deputies Costella struck the woman 10 times in the forehead, according to reports.
The victim was treated at the ER and required stitches on her head. She refused to file charges against Costella; however, due to the nature of her injuries and her age, the deputy signed the charges, according to reports.
The victim told deputies she had an argument with Costella and smacked her for calling her names and Costella then attacked her, according to reports.
Costella was transported to Ashtabula County Jail where she remained Monday.
