Annual holiday parade set for Dec. 6 to kick off holiday season

GENEVA — Even the clock in Geneva is ready for Santa.

The Geneva Business Association’s annual holiday parade will he held Dec. 6 in the downtown square and everyone is invited to welcome the man in the red suit and kick off the holiday season.

The theme this year is “Christmas in Geneva,” said event organizer Andrew White.

White, who serves as president of the association, said each holiday in Geneva is special.

“The key is that anyone can participate,” he said. “You don’t have to be an organization or business to be in the parade – neighbors, friends, families can sign up for this fun event.”

People can walk in the parade, string their cars or tractors with lights, or get creative.

“We have seen some really, really impressive floats and cars in our parades,” White said.

The parade also boasts fire trucks and ambulances from local area safety forces.

Prizes will be awarded for the best float, best dressed Christmas marching unit and the best decorated mobile unit. To participate in the parade, get a registration form at www.genevaohio.com.

The parade starts at 7 p.m., with parade lineup at 6 p.m. on Eagle Street. The parade route takes floats and marchers on Park Street to South Broadway through the downtown square. The parade will turn right on Woodlawn at the railroad tracks to Forest Street, where it will disperse at Route 20.

“That’s when Santa gets ready to meet all the children who want to tell him what they want for Christmas,” White said.

Santa will see all children at the Geneva Recreation Center immediately following the parade. Photos with Santa will be available for a small fee.

The event opens up the entire downtown scene, White said, as local businesses will be open later for shoppers.

The United Church of Geneva will host a Nativity display before, during and following the parade. Refreshments will be available, as well as a Nativity scene photo opportunity. The event is free and open to the public.
