City moves on plans for Bridge Street

ASHTABULA — City Council took two more steps toward implementing nearly $700,000 in grants to improve Bridge Street.

Council gave City Manager Jim Timonere approval to hire Poggemeyer Design Group of Bowling Green to administer $289,200 of the grant for the city, as well as its approval to enter into a contract with GPD Group of Akron to design and construct a parking lot on Bridge Street.

With the Downtown Revitalization Grant, the city will create a public parking lot with lighting and landscaping, and the north side of Hulbert Hill will be re-bricked with the critical infrastructure grant.

The city will have two years to finish all of the projects in the harbor area.

In other business, Timonere announced:

• Garbage pickup next week will remain as scheduled despite the Veteran’s Day holiday on Monday. The transfer station and sanitation office will be closed Monday;

• During the month of November, the fee for stickers for yard waste bags is waived for city residents, and

• Anyone who would normally vote at G.O. Ministries (the old Thurgood Marshall School) on Station Avenue today, should go to Messiah Lutheran Church at 615 W. Prospect Road to vote. The polls will be open 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.
