Ashtabula Harbor group to work on Neighborhood Make a Difference Day

ASHTABULA — The Harbor Neighborhood Watch Team is asking the community to join them on Neighborhood Make a Difference Day, Oct. 19, when they will be focusing on cleaning up the streets, curbs and storm sewers of all debris.

Beginning at 10 a.m., the Neighborhood Watch Team will get to work in the area of West 10th Street and West 11th Street from Allen, Lyndon, Myrtle and Thayer avenues in the Ashtabula Harbor. The volunteers will spend the day cleaning up weeds, grass and twigs, and removing debris in and around storm sewers.

“Our goal is to set a positive example as a clean neighborhood in Ashtabula and encourage other neighborhoods to follow our example,” said Bob Felt, a member of the Neighborhood Watch Team. “In addition, we want to encourage all residents to clean their yards, shrubs, tree lawns, curbs and storm sewers on a regular basis.”

City Manager Jim Timonere said he will lend a hand by providing extra yard-waste pick-ups through the city’s Department of Sanitation.

“By keeping our property in the very best condition, we show others we care and are setting a positive example in the city,” Felt said. “We also want to remind residents to be alert for activities that are questionable in the neighborhood and call the police to report any unusual activity.”

Anyone who is unable to join the group on Oct. 19, is asked to choose a day to clean up their own yard.
