Beatitude House to host Cornerstone Dinner

WARREN — Beatitude House will hold its 11th annual Cornerstone Dinner Sunday at DiVieste Banquet Hall. This event honors the generosity of donors as well as the accomplishments of the women and children who participate in Beatitude House programs.

The children will receive recognition for school attendance, academic improvement and personal growth. Women will receive awards for obtaining a driver’s license, maintaining employment, and moving into permanent housing, as well as for program attendance, education, personal growth, and on-going achievement.

A new award, the Sister Betty Schuster Outstand-ing Youth Award will be presented to one deserving youth that has shown exceptional personal growth, leadership or achievement.

The award was created to honor the remarkable dedication and impact of former Beatitude House employee and first child advocate, Schuster.

Schuster joined Beatitude House shortly after it first opened and became immediately enmeshed in its mission. As a former health and physical education teacher, she put her talents to work as the very first child advocate, creating the comprehensive child advocacy program still used today.

Schuster mentored more than 100 families during her six years as child advocate at A House of Blessing Youngstown, and although she left Beatitude House in January to focus on her battle with ovarian cancer, her spirit continues brightening the lives of children each day through our programs.

In addition, two women will be recognized with special awards, the Sister Margaret Scheetz Achieve-ment Award and Amba-ssador Award, in acknowledgment of their personal qualities, achievements and support of the program.

Beatitude House serves homeless and disadvantaged families by creating homes, providing education and fostering healthy families. Beatitude House provides housing and support services for 63 homeless families in Ashtabula, Mahoning and Trumbull counties.
