Two former Conneaut educators and coaches will be the newest additions to the Conneaut High School Athletic Hall of Fame, according to reports.
David Simpson and Elizabeth Vento will join the Hall during a ceremony later this fall, according to the CHS Alumni Club, which oversees the selections.
Here’s a look at the latest inductees:
Simpson was a coach and teacher in the Conneaut Area City Schools district from 1974 until retirement in 2004.
During that time he coached boys basketball at the freshmen, junior varsity and varsity levels; tennis at the junior high and varsity levels; junior high track; and girls’ varsity basketball and volleyball.
He was Northeastern Conference tennis coach of the year in 2008-09. Simpson also coached tennis after retirement.
Vento, who taught and coached in the Conneaut district between 1978 and 2002, was also a standout scholastic athlete.
Between 1970 and 1973 she earned six varsity letters in basketball and softball and was selected Most Valuable Player in both sports during her senior year.
She attended Kent State University and was a member of the school’s golf and basketball teams between 1973 and 1977.
At CHS she served as head volleyball coach, ran the junior varsity basketball and softball programs and eighth-grade basketball coach.
