Ashtabula students ready for Little Dragon Night

SAYBROOK TOWNSHIP — Crazy socks and polka dots, funny hats and dragons? Students in the Ashtabula Area City Schools District have immersed themselves in Spirit Week.

Students have decorated their school’s hallways, lockers and doors in green and gold, as well as dressed in interesting outfits every day. Monday was mixed-up plaid and polka dots day, Tuesday was crazy socks day, Wednesday called for green and gold and on Thursday, students wore funny, silly hats.

In addition, members of Senior Leadership, accompanied by the school district’s mascot, Smoky the Dragon, visited kindergarten classrooms to officially welcome the newest Dragons to the district with the gift of a Dragon T-shirt.

“Spirit Week is an anticipated and celebrated time in our district,” Superintendent Patrick Colucci said. “There is no better time to say 'Welcome Aboard’ to our littlest Dragons than during this week.”

Tonight is the 6th Annual Little Dragon Night, when students from preschool age to sixth-grade, and their parents, go to Lakeside High School for a big, pre-game pep assembly to cheer on the football team before the Lakeside Dragons play the Geneva Eagles.

After the pep assembly, students and parents walk to the football field to form the tunnel for the varsity football team. The pep assembly begins at 6:15 p.m. in the high school gymnasium. Everyone in attendance should enter through the school’s event entrance. The walk to the field will begin at 6:35 p.m.

Admission to the pep assembly is free to students in elementary school, but all students must be accompanied by an adult. Discounted adult tickets ($5) may be purchased today at school or before the pep assembly.
