Ashtabula City Health Department announces flu vaccine schedule

ASHTABULA — The flu vaccine is in good supply for the 2013-2014 season, said Ginny Ewing, nursing director at the Ashtabula City Health Department.

Manufacturers have reported no shortages for the upcoming flu season, Ewing said.

“We are happy to give flu vaccines here (at the Health Department) from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays, or at one of our nine locations now through mid-October,” she said.

At the clinics, Ashtabula residents will pay $20 for regular flu and nasal spray vaccines and $40 for high dose flu shots. Medicare Part B and Medicaid are accepted for payment for flu and pneumonia shots.

The pneumonia vaccine is available for seniors ages 65 and older.

The nasal spray is for people ages 2 to 49 years, who would prefer the nasal spray over the vaccine. A tetanus with pertussis booster is $10 (needed every 10 years).

Ohio’s influenza season typically lasts between January and March.
