71-year-old Ashtabula woman raped by burglar

ASHTABULA — A 71-year-old woman was raped by an intruder who broke into her westside home Friday night, according to Ashtabula Police Department reports.

The assault took place at about 11 p.m. after the suspect forced entry into the woman’s West 40th Street home. After raping the woman, he then fled the scene, police said.

The police and an ambulance were called and the woman was transported to Ashtabula County Medical Center, where she received medical treatment.

The victim did not know the man but described him as a white male in his early 20s, with dark hair, about six-feet tall and weighing about 145 pounds, police said.

Chief Robert Stell said the burglary and sexual assault are under investigation.

“We have no one in custody, but my officers are working on this investigation,” he said. “We are going to get this guy.”
