Ashtabula moves Trick or Treat to November 2

Star Beacon

ASHTABULA — Ashtabula will move Halloween trick or treating to Nov. 2 from 5 - 7 p.m., City Manager Jim Timonere confirmed Friday.

In the past, the city celebrated from 5-7 p.m. on Oct. 31.

Timonere said the decision to move it to the weekend was based on comments from the community.

“People do not get home (from work) until well after 5 p.m.,” he said. “More people can participate on weekends.”

Surrounding communities also hold trick or treat on weekends, he said.

“I thought we would give it a try and see how it goes,” Timonere said.

Saybrook Township will hold trick or treat on Nov. 2, as well, he said.

Ashtabula Township has not set its date or time, said Ryan Whitmire, the township’s zoning inspector. “But, the township usually follows the city.”

The trustees probably will set the date later this month, he said.

The Village of Geneva-on-the-Lake also has not set a date, an official said.

Calls to other local townships and municipalities show the following dates and times for trick or treat:

• The Village of Jefferson — 4-6 p.m. Oct. 26;

• Geneva — 4-6 p.m. Oct. 27, and

• Conneaut — 5-7 p.m. Oct. 31.
