Media outlets are reporting a Geneva-on-the-Lake police officer shot and killed a man Thursday night while working as a security guard in Cleveland.
The shooting is being investigated by Cleveland police and its Use of Deadly Force unit, according to reports.
News reports did not identify the police officer. Village Administrator Jim Hockaday could not be reached for comment Friday afternoon. Village Solicitor Kyle Smith said he had no information on the incident.
According to various news reports that quoted Cleveland police, the officer was working as a private security guard when he answered a call around 10:30 p.m. Thursday regarding a disturbance at an apartment building on East Boulevard. The officer discovered a large number of people had gathered in a hallway, then noticed a fight between a man and woman.
The man pointed a gun at the officer, according to reports. The gun was equipped with a laser sight, which was trained on the officer, according to one news report.
The officer fired his weapon when the man refused to drop his gun, according to reports.
One media outlet reported the shooting occurred around 1 a.m. The man died at the scene, according to reports.
