Stephen J. McClure will seek Ashtabula County commissioner seat

ASHTABULA TOWNSHIP — Stephen J. McClure, long-time Ashtabula Township trustee, has filed petitions seeking the Democratic nomination for the Ashtabula County commissioner seat in the May 6 primary election.

McClure has been a township trustee for 12 years and before that spent six years on the Ashtabula Area Board of Education. That background has prepared him to be an “effective county commissioner,” he said in a statement.

“I am the most experienced and qualified candidate seeking this office,” he said. “I strongly believe in the principles of the Democratic Party. I plan on running an aggressive, county-wide campaign.”

McClure said he is running because “I want to create a better future for all Ashtabula County residents.”

“As a working class individual, I understand the challenges many Ashtabula County citizens are facing and I am determined to be part of the solution,” he said in the statement.

Four other Democrats, all from Conneaut, are challenging McClure for the nomination. Four Republicans are hoping to be that party’s standard-bearer in November.
