Buckeye Board of Education renews administrators, coaches

ASHTABULA TOWNSHIP — More than 150 people listened intently late Friday evening as four administrators and numerous coaches were approved for contract renewal during an 8:30 p.m. Buckeye Board of Education meeting at Edgewood High School.

Several people, including two Edgewood football players, spoke on behalf of existing coaches, and others spoke for existing administrators, during the public participation portion of the meeting.

After the discussion the board unanimously approved three-year contracts for Edgewood High School Athletic Administrator Steve Kray; Edgewood High School Assistant Principal/ Technology Coordinator Nicholas Orlando, Edgewood High School Principal Karl Williamson and food service supervisor Lisa Loomis.

In other business the board unanimously approved Edgewood coaches including assistant track coaches John Crooks and Christopher Juncker for the spring season; volleyball coach Dave Fowler; football coach Joshua Franke and cross country coach Steven Hill for the fall season.

Supplemental sports coaches were also approved for assistant boys tennis coach Ben Markel, boys golf coach Joe Foderetti, girls golf coach Stacy Harryman and girls soccer coach Vincent Peluso.

Williamson said two Edgewood High School seniors Heather Weaver and Anthony Spano have been selected as National Merit Finalists.

Buckeye Superintendent Joseph Spiccia said the students were chosen because of their PSAT scores were in the top one half of one percent of students who took the case in the entire country.

He said they were also were chosen for their work in the school and community in addition to the academic criteria.

Spiccia also discussed a potential partnership with Lakeland Community College. The school would offer a variety of courses to supplement a new program the school is starting to help place students with area companies.
