Ashtabula County Home Show continues today at the mall

ASHTABULA TOWNSHIP — The home improvement season is officially here with the Ashtabula County Home Show in full swing this weekend.

“It is a definite honor to participate in an event like this,” said Pam Harting of the Pymatuning Area Chamber of Commerce. She is also the secretary of the Ashtabula County Chambers of Commerce, that sponsors the event, and was handing out chances to win merchandise and gift certificates at the Ashtabula Towne Square.

“People have been extra generous with the door prizes,” Harting said. She said there is $1,000 in gifts and merchandise to be given away by this evening.

Harting said there were more than 60 vendors this year.  “It is higher. I would say 20 percent higher (than last year),” she said.

Gary Daniels made his way east from Painesville on Saturday morning. “(I’m) looking for a generator,” he said.

“They are looking for their power to stay on. This is all we do,” said Craig Shepp, owner of Shepp Electric in the Chardon area.

Visitors to the show can experience a wide variety of exhibits ranging from insurance, to carpet cleaning and everything in between.

John Hogan, of Weather Sealco in Ashtabula, said the show started a bit slow on Friday, but picked up Saturday with lots of people looking for home improvement options.

“The people who have been in are looking at the sun rooms,” Hogan said of remodeling that can improve the lighting experience while living indoors.

He said the cold windy weather has people looking for new windows to cut off the draft that increases hearing prices.

The show continues at noon today and is scheduled to close at 5 p.m.
